Historic Buchan's Landing
Buchan's Landing Resort is located in the Village of Olde Englewood, near the historic site of Buchan's Landing. Buchan's Landing was where the old sailing ships docked, bringing goods and supplies from Tampa to Englewood in the days before there were any roads. Located on the shores of Lemon Bay, Buchan's Landing Resort is in the midst of one of eight aquatic preserves in Southwest Florida. The ambience of the area is laid back and quiet, traffic is minimal and high-rise buildings, condos and shopping malls are non-existent.
Olde Englewood Village/Dearborn St.
Buchans Landing Resort is located on the water at the end of Dearborn St. From live bait, to a wireless internet coffee shop, to fine art, Olde Englewood Village has lots of places to shop and dine all with in walking distance. Nature
Not many coastal communities can boast the unspoiled natural resources found in our area. Sunny days, spectacular sunsets, miles of quiet beaches and abundant wildlife truly make this a special part of Florida. Manatees, dolphins and sea turtles abound in our waters while bald eagles, ospreys, blue herons, great snowy egrets, pelicans, wood stork and ibis grace the skies. Miles of barrier islands follow the coastline all the way down to the Everglades, with quiet bays and inlets just waiting to be discovered. World famous fishing abounds here. Trophy tarpon, grouper, snapper, snook, redfish, permit, pompano, sea trout, king mackerel, cobia and even the occasional sailfish all are just waiting for your hook and line. Our area features many fine fishing guides and charter boats to get you to where the action is.
The Arts / Restaurants
While relaxing with nature may be the most obvious amenity, our community and the surrounding area has so much more to offer. Artists from all over the country and the world have long made our area a favorite haunt. Sarasota, just twenty miles north, is a favorite of Broadway stars who often perform in small area theaters during Broadway's off season. Englewood's own Lemon Bay Playhouse is located near the resort and features many fine performances. Venice and Englewood both boast art centers, offering gallery sales and art classes as well as featuring regional and national shows from time to time. The Village of Olde Englewood is considered an art "enclave" with many small art galleries & restaurants within just a few minutes walk from the resort.
Local Parks
There are four county parks close by, Indian Mound, Cedar Point, Lemon Bay and the "Rec Center", the later being an easy walk from the resort and featuring tennis, basketball and softball as well as a playground for the kids. Indian Mound Park, just 3/10ths of a mile south of the resort has nature trails and a convenient boat ramp.
State Parks
Within easy driving and/or boating distance, you'll find five state parks. The largest state park in Florida is Myakka River State Park. If you wish to see alligators, this is the place to go. Ride the Gator Gal, the world's largest air boat. Rent a canoe or a bicycle and see nature up close. Myakka also features an elevated rope bridge seventy five feet into the treetops, allowing you to explore the arboreal side of Florida. Excellent fresh water fishing and bird watching abound. Oscar Scherer State Park features the coastal ecosystem. Gasparilla Island (access by car or boat), Don Pedro (boat and ferry access) and Cayo Costa (boat only) all feature the nature of our barrier islands.
